Welcome to Cannpowerment Contract Manufacturing, where we strive to provide exceptional contract manufacturing services for our clients in the legal cannabis industry. Our company was founded by two lifelong friends, Matha and James, who have a passion for quality and innovation.

Matha and James have been friends since the third grade, where Matha was one of two classmates who volunteered to show James his new school. Little did they know that years later, they would come together to form CannPowerment Contract Manufacturing.

Matha brings extensive experience in hospitality as a pastry chef in fine dining, where she has honed her skills in precision and attention to detail. She has also worked in management for Whole Foods, focusing on public health and safety through food. With this background, Matha brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to Cannpowerment, ensuring that our products meet the highest standards of quality and safety.

James, on the other hand, brings experience in pharmaceutical and consumer packaged goods, having worked for Pester Pac Automation with clients like L’Oréal, Proctor & Gamble, and other widely recognized companies. James’ expertise in automation and packaging helps Cannpowerment to deliver top-quality manufacturing services to our clients.

Cannpowerment was born out of a desire to empower those looking to enter the legal cannabis market. James once told Matha that her ButACake packaging was absolute trash, and from there, they began to explore how they could help other entrepreneurs who were struggling to bring their products to market. With their combined experience and passion for excellence, Matha and James launched Cannpowerment Contract Manufacturing.

To make New Jersey cannabis manufacturing credible, compliant, and operator-led.

For too long, cannabis manufacturing has been a bottleneck — inconsistent, under-capitalized, and often disconnected from the realities of state compliance. We built CannPowerment to be the opposite: a production partner that treats compliance as table stakes, execution as the product, and every SKU we touch as a brand we’d put our own name on.

New Jersey is one of the largest limited-license adult-use cannabis markets in the United States. The state’s regulatory structure creates durable moats for licensed, operational manufacturers — and consistently punishes everyone else.

At the same time, the category is maturing. Consumers are moving from flower into edibles, drinks, and functional formats. Brands increasingly want a manufacturing partner that can ship compliant, on-spec product at wholesale scale — not a co-packer figuring it out for the first time.

CannPowerment was built for exactly this moment.

Licensed, operational, in-market. Being NJ-licensed is rare. Being licensed, operational, and running paid production is rarer. We’ve been doing it since 2023.

Distribution in place.  That working-capital structure gives us an execution advantage most of our peers don’t have.

Proven product development. We produce multiple of New Jersey’s first legal product of its kind in two categories; baked goods and beverages. We take product through formulation, compliance, and retail — which is meaningfully harder than any white paper suggests.

Founder-led and mission-aligned. CannPowerment is Black woman-owned and operator-run. In a market where the vast majority of licenses never become operating businesses, we are one of the few that did — and we see social-equity capital, operator-led investors, and category specialists as natural partners for what comes next.
