Matha Figaro is a classically trained pastry chef and licensed cannabis manufacturer. She founded ButACake in 2015 — one of the earliest notable chef-driven cannabis edibles brands in New Jersey — and co-founded CannPowerment LLC, a New Jersey Class 2 licensed manufacturing company.

Figaro is widely recognized as the first Black woman to operate an independent cannabis brand and manufacturing company in both New Jersey’s and Delaware’s regulated medical and adult use markets.

Under Figaro’s leadership, CannPowerment produces ButACake products alongside collaborative partners and owned categories, and has pushed New Jersey’s infused product landscape past traditional candy-based formats toward culinary formulations built on real baking technique.
